The seven beautiful women that grace our cover know a lot about hope. They are cancer survivors, but more importantly, they are strong, funny, incredibly uplifting women. I believe we have a lot to learn from each one of them, from how to cope with a cancer diagnosis to the art of living your life to the absolute fullest.
Our cover girls, Nelda Powell, Traci Sharp, Susan Berry, Debbie Windsor, Dodie Bourdon, Frances Evers, and Dena Hays met through the group, Survivors Supporting Survivors, also known as S3. The group leader is Debbie Windsor, and she will be the first person I profile starting in October on mycharmonline.com. I know you’ll enjoy meeting these lovely ladies as much as I did.
For now, I’m going to leave you with a quote from the movie "Hope Floats" (starring Sandra Bullock) that sums up the feeling of hope in a really sweet way,
… " beginnings are scary, endings are usually sad, but it's the middle that counts the most. Try to remember that when you find yourself at a new beginning. Just give hope a chance to float up. It always does."
Women Survivors Supporting Survivors — the S3 Support Group — is for women with any type of cancer. S3 Support meets from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. the first Monday of each month in The Hub at Pine Tree Church of Christ, 3221 Dundee Road in Longview.
For information, contact Debbie Windsor with Texas Oncology at (903) 235-6135.
